In and Out

Many objects find their way into our spaces without an invitation, and start wandering around aimlessly. Introduce them to a clear entry and exit plan! A foyer or entryway can act like a filtering membrane, a decision-making zone for the ebb and flow of things. It holds our “inbox” and “outboxes” for objects. Here’s what you’ll need…

Drop point for incoming things - a contained location like a bin, shelf, tabletop for mail, packages etc.

Package-opening tool Xacto knife or… your keys?

Drop points for outgoing objects specific containers for returns, donations, trash/recycling/compost

Keep all the processing and action close to the door.

This is for convenience (make it easy), as a visual reminder (to make it obvious), and because it feels SO GOOD to get everything you don’t want, out as soon as possible (make it satisfying).*
